02 House at 432 Abercorn

The large house at 432 Abercorn Street sits at the intersection of East Gordon Street, and towers over the Southeast corner of Calhoun Square. Records show that this giant three-story house was built in 1868 for General Benjamin J. Wilson, a Civil War veteran.

At the time when it was built, the home was considered to be one of the most expensive homes in the state, being valued then at more than $20,000, which was a lot of money then. Recent owners bought the home for just under a million dollars after the previous owners had already started extensive renovation work.
